The precarious nature of Barcelona’s economic position has forced club president Sandro Rosell to reassign his priorities in the transfer market, with several high profile players already scored from his shortlist due to their expense.

After vice-president Xavier Faus admitted on Thursday that a more austere period is needed at the Camp Nou, there has reportedly been a cull in the list of transfer targets that the Blaugrana are aiming at this summer.

High profile names such as Arjen Robben, Javier Mascherano and Juan Mata have been dropped from Barca’s radar.

Instead, there are now only two targets left for Barcelona this summer. Pep Guardiola’s side may yet be reinforced with the addition of Spain international midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who so infamously was allowed to slip through the youth team’s net to instead sign for Arsenal, and Sevilla full-back Adriano.

Should a move for the latter break down, it is suggested that Gregory van der Weil, who has been heavily linked with Bayern Munich, could make the jump to Catalunya instead.

Barca are presently in the process of paying back a loan worth an incredible €155 million.
