Werder Bremen Ace Diego: I’ll Be Juventus’ New Zinedine Zidane

The Brazilian is set to complete his move to the Old Lady and admits he is not scared of the challenge.
After a lengthy courtship, Juventus are about to announce the signing of Brazilian international trequartista Diego from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen and the 24-year-old is itching to pull on the Bianconeri colours.

“Let’s just say we are very close, a tiny step away,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I want to play for Juventus. I have always dreamt of playing in Italy. I think Serie A is the most beautiful and difficult league. And Juve have showed me how much they really want me.

“There are so many great champions in Italy. [Zinedine] Zidane used to be my role model and I watched him on TV. He is French, but has Brazilian feet.

“Am I scared of the increased pressure in Serie A? I am used to it. I have been playing for the Selecao since I was 19 and it’s the same thing when you lose a game in Brazil. It is a drama.”

Diego is currently sidelined due to injury, but he is confident he will be available for the DFB Pokal final against Bayer Leverkusen. He will, however, miss the UEFA Cup final against Shakhtar Donetsk through suspension.

“I suffered a muscular problem, but I am feeling better,” he said. “I am suspended for the UEFA Cup, but I’ll be at the coach’s disposal for the German Cup final.”
