Nevio Orlandi Laments Mistakes As Reggina Are Relegated

The Amaranto boss was clearly disappointed that his side have been relegated...

Reggina were mathematically relegated after a 1-0 loss to Lazio on Wednesday, in a season where they had constantly struggled. Coach Nevio Orlandi discussed the side's sub-par season.

"The goal by [Mauro] Zarate came from one of our usual mistakes," he sighed after the match at the Stadio Olimpico to Mediaset.

"Mistakes? We've made many. We did not do well at home and that is usually how you achieve salvation, and during the season we did not manage to improve.

"We also failed in terms of our character, as well as our quality. The match with Sampdoria [when we lost 5-0], cut the legs out from under us, especially mentally. However, this should not be an excuse."

Meanwhile, the 55-year-old is not sure what the future holds or if he will lead the team in Serie B next season.

"With [president Lilo] Foti nothing was said in the locker room, there was absolute silence," he revealed. "The future? It's wrong to talk about it now. I have a strong bond with this club, but we'll see what happens later."

Reggina's last match of the season, when they face Siena in Calabria, is now academic.
