Higuain Admits Barcelona Deserve Title Over Real Madrid

The outgoing champions have been sporting in their praise for their rivals and their Argentinian striker was also keen to follow suit...

Gonzalo Higuain was keen to congratulate Barcelona after Real Madrid's defeat at Villarreal meant that the Catalan outfit were crowned as champions of the Primera Division on Saturday evening.

The Argentinian forward was pleased with his team's performance in El Madrigal as they battled to beat a determined home team, but could not take anything from the game.

As Barca began celebrating completing the domestic double, Higuain sent them a message and reflected on what he felt was a better display from Madrid.

"We have to congratulate the champions because they deserved to win the league," he is quoted as saying by the club's official website.

"But for us the important thing is that we showed we wanted to win against Villarreal."

Manuel Pellegrini's team needed all three points to maintain their push for a top four finish and for Higuain that desire showed.

"You could tell there was much at stake for Villarreal. We did all we could, but they started strong and were luckier in decisive moments," he added.

"The first goal we conceded was a harsh blow, and every time we managed to grow stronger we received another."
