Wayne Rooney misses England training
Wayne Rooney joined Ledley King and Ashley Cole on the sidelines as England returned to training this morning following their opening World Cup draw against the USA.
Manchester United striker Rooney suffered a kick on his ankle during England's 1-1 draw in Rustenburg on Saturday and sat out training as a precaution.
The Manchester United player was seen smiling as he headed to the swimming pool, allaying fears over his fitness for the crucial Group C clash against Algeria on Friday.
Rooney was joined by Chelsea left-back Cole, who was also resting, and Tottenham centre-half King, who will continue to be monitored on a daily basis amid reports that his tournament is over.
The England medical team have said the groin injury King suffered on Saturday will be assessed daily but it is thought he could be out for up to two weeks.
That would make him unavailable for selection until the competition's knockout stages.
The 29 year-old was at training this morning but spent only the briefest time on the pitch when Fabio Capello delivered a short address to the squad.
"Ledley has a groin muscle strain. He will be assessed on a day-to-day basis," said a Football Association spokesman.
King's injury further deepens Capello's defensive problems after skipper Rio Ferdinand's tournament was ended by a knee injury he suffered in training, while Jamie Carragher looked at times unconvincing after replacing King at half time in the draw against the USA.
