Antic dedicates win to Serbian people

Serbia coach Radomir Antic predicted wild celebrations in his home country after a shock 1-0 win over Germany.

Milan Jovanovic's winner blew Group D wide open as Germany missed a penalty and had Miroslav Klose sent off.

"This is a victory for our people, who for sure will know how to celebrate it," said a delighted Antic.

"What is certain is that Serbian people have recognised themselves in this team, so this is a victory dedicated to the Serbian people."

Three-time champions Germany, who thrashed Australia 4-0 in their opening match on Sunday, lost striker Klose when he was shown a red card for a second bookable offence in the 33rd minute.



However, Serbia had goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic to thank for maintaining their slender lead after Manchester United central defender Nemanja Vidic needlessly handled attempting to clear a cross in the 59th minute.

The Wigan keeper dived low to his left to block Lukas Podolski's weak spot-kick, while Jovanovic saw a 67th-minute strike rebound off the post.

But despite a nervous finish, Antic said he was confident his team could beat the most impressive team in the first round of World Cup matches.

"I believed my players could do this," added Antic, whose side lost 1-0 to Ghana in their opening match.

"We've a great opportunity where we depend only on ourselves in the next match. We too can decide our own fate now.

"Klose's red card was obviously a big handicap for Germany but we were very positive and energetic after me and my players were under a great deal of pressure from the defeat in our opening game."
