Timothee Atouba Offers Himself To Marseille

As soon as the season was over in France and Didier Deschamps took over from Erik Gerets at Olympique Marseille, the legendary France international declared that he would be looking for two top central defenders, two midfielders and a striker for next season's Champions League campaign. And as soon as that happened, propositions from candidate footballers came pouring in.

After Werder Bremen's refusal to even negotiate with the French vice-champions about their Brazilian defender Naldo, Villareal's Pascal Cygan offered his services.

And in an interview with Skysports, Cameroonian veteran Timothee Atouba said that he would be very interested in playing for Marseille.

"Playing in France would be great for my career, although of course nothing is done.

Marseille is a big club of Champions League level, and although I have not had real contact, I do not hide the fact that I would love to play there."

The 28-year-old has had a series of injuries recently and is not a starter in the national team anymore. If he wants to be reconsidered by new Cameroon coach, Thomas N'kono, he needs to earn a lot of playing time with whatever club he plays for next season.

It's not sure how Marseille will react since the club has vowed not to have a majority of African players in a year with an African Cup of Nations in the winter.
