Robinho to miss Tottenham game with groin injury

Manchester City's Robinho has been ruled out of the Premier League match with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

The Brazilian forward has been struggling with a groin injury all week and while he is still undergoing treatment, his manager, Mark Hughes, confirmed the £32.5m signing will not have recovered in time to face Harry Redknapp's men as City chase the win that would put them back in contention for a Europa League place.



"We do not expect him to be fit this weekend," said Hughes. "We are hoping he will be OK for Bolton next week."

However, there is some good news for City with, Shaun Wright-Phillips set to be available after a knee injury.

"There has been some bruising on the bone which has taken longer to recover from than we thought," said Hughes. "But he's back training again from today and we think he will be fine for the weekend."

Hughes also allayed fears over the future of Michael Johnson. The England Under-21 midfielder has missed virtually the entire season with muscular problems in his groin area.

There was some speculation earlier this week that Johnson's career might even be in jeopardy. However, Hughes does not feel the damage is so bad and Johnson might well be available for the start of next season.

"Michael is seeing another specialist this week," said Hughes. "The good news is that he doesn't need surgery.

"What he needs is more rehabilitation on the medical side. It is a little bit complicated but we're hoping he will be back playing for the start of next season."
