Manchester United Boss Alex Ferguson Regrets Selling Gerard Pique To Barcelona

Sir Alex Ferguson hopes that selling Gerard Pique back to Barcelona will not come back to haunt him in the Champions League final...

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson reluctantly sold Gerard Pique back to Barcelona last summer, but now the Scot hopes that his decision to release the defender back to the Blaugrana will not come back to bite him.

Pique was relieved of his duties at Old Trafford after showing a desire to secure more first team action, and was sold back to the club in which he spent his youth for a humble £5 million.

With the Champions League final drawing closer, Sir Alex is aware that Pique is sure to start for Barca, and while the Red Devils gaffer has no problem praising the talent of the Spaniard, he does not wish him any kind of good luck for the upcoming fixture.

"I have always liked the boy. I did expect him to reach this level so quickly," started Ferguson, quoted by Sky Sports.

"He has fantastic qualities but most importantly, he has a good self-determination about him. He is a winner and a good professional.

"I always thought he would do well. We were disappointed to lose him but we understood at the time that his family desire was to go back to Barcelona.

"He looked at [Rio] Ferdinand and [Nemanja] Vidic and wanted to be in the first team immediately.

"I can understand why he wanted to go back to Barcelona. We wished him well at the time but we don't wish him well on Wednesday."
