Gennaro Gattuso: Milan Legend Paolo Maldini Is A 'Gladiator'

The midfielder has complimented his captain before he hangs up his boots...

Paolo Maldini is set to retire at the end of the season and Gennaro Gattuso has lavished praise on his captain ahead of his last match in front of the Milan fans at the San Siro this Sunday.

"It will be a game that is dedicated to the end of a great career such as Paolo's," he told Milan Channel.

"I believe the correct definition for a champion like him is 'a gladiator'. He is a player who wore the captain's armband and gave his all, a great example, even off the pitch.

"Personally, he has helped me a lot and to understand many things. Surely, Sunday will be a great experience at the finish line of his career. I will always think of him and so will all my team-mates."

The ex-Rangers man also commented on the futures of Kaka and Carlo Ancelotti, who have been linked with moves away from the San Siro.

"I am sure Kaka will remain," he said.

However, he was less confident regarding his coach. "The team is behind him, he has been our coach for many years and that has created a special relationship. The tactician and company will have to agree on certain things and we hope they succeed [in keeping him here]."

Gattuso could make his long-awaited comeback from injury against the Giallorossi this weekend.
