Fiorentina Must Focus On Fourth Place

With Juventus dropping further points, the Viola are starting to believe they can overtake the Bianconeri in third place, even though Gilardino is preaching caution to his team-mates.

Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino scored his 19th goal of the season this afternoon as he helped his side to a 1-0 win against Sampdoria which paves the way for Champions League qualification.

The Viola are also in an excellent position to overtake a struggling Juventus side in third place, but Gilardino wants to focus on making sure the team clinches fourth spot before considering any other objectives.

"For the time being let's only think about the fourth place," commented the former Milan player to Rai.

"I'm happy; I thank my team-mates and the entire squad for helping me get in position to score goals."

Today Gilardino faced former team-mate Giampaolo Pazzini, who he praised, and also found time to speak about possible new signing Hernan Crespo from Inter.

"Pazzini? He's a great player," he affirmed.

"Crespo? If he arrives he's a great signing and he will be welcome."

Fiorentina now have 67 points from 36 games played, five points above Genoa and just one point behind Juventus with only two games remaining before the end of the season.
